Ulsan Cup 2015

GIFC made its debut at the Ulsan Cup tournament held on the 23rd and 24th May 2015. Our results on Saturday were 0-2 v Inter Suwon, 0-3 v Jeonju and 1-0 v Daegu Devils. That meant we finished 3rd in our group and so we went into the plate section of the tournament. We received a bye for the quarter-final (Jinhaespor had to forfeit) so we played Jejuventus in the semi-final. We were 1-0 up at the break and seemingly in control. An action packed second half followed and it finished 3-3 before we lost 4-1 on penalties.

Overall, a great effort all round and a super weekend of football. Thank you to the organisers (Gareth and Philip). Hopefully GIFC can participate again next year.

Squad: Paul Hammond (G), Edgar Longui, Ozgur Sanci, Samy Arfaoui, Steven Gall (C), Dan Devere, Ruslan Zakirov, Colin Haddow, Anders Moen, Keanlim Low, Michael Fincham, Roland Toihein, Antoine de Gorostarzu, Azli Hafeez Bin Roslan, Paulo Pereira, Frederic Applanat, Timur Zakirov, Mathieu Wolfert.

5-a-side Tournament 25th April

Fantastic football and weather for the GIFC 5-a-side tournament on Saturday 25th April at ISK. GIFC won their three group games before meeting Technip in another final. Nothing could seperate the two teams after 20 goalless minutes. In the 10 minutes of extra-time that followed, Technip gradually pulled away to win 2-0 and avenge the group game defeat. So congratulations to Technip on their victory. Top goalscorers were Mathieu (GIFC) and Fred (Technip) with 8 goals each. Thank you to Dong Energy, Team Malaysia and those who refereed. We are now turning our attention back to 11-a-side over the coming weeks with the Ulsan Cup on the horizon.

GIFC Squad: Paul Hammond, Mitch Antunovich, Steven Gall, Dan Devere, Colin Haddow, Mathieu Wolfert, Will Naughton, Daryn Megaw, Neil Matheson, Ryan Walters.

Geoje Invitational II Results

GIFC enjoyed hosting our second tournament in as many months at the gorgeous Aju Stadium on November 30th. We were happy to host fellow Geoje islanders Prelude and Libero as well as Galma FC, who made the trip down from Daejeon. Nearly all of the matches were extremely close contests, and it even came down to goal difference for Prelude to make their way into the final. Once there they handed GIFC its first loss of the day and took home the title.
